Took 50% deposit on job and failed to do the work. Ripoff

We hired Mr. Snodgrass last October to remove a bathtub from our bathroom and install a shower. He took a $1,750 down payment, which represented 50% of the estimated price before announcing it would be a few weeks before he could start.

Several weeks later he showed up with one worker and tore out the old tub and tile. That took less than 8 hours. He did not return until early January. At that time he moved the drain and left the new concrete to harden. He never returned after that, although he made several promises to do so.

We called in mid-January and told him that we would have to hire someone else to complete the job if he failed to show up as promised one more time. He did not show.
We had to hire a plumber to re-do the drain work that had been done. The new contractor completed the job in about ten days.

Mr. Snodgrass refused to return any of the deposit we had given him. We took him to small claims court in late May and, once again, he failed to show up. This resulted in our being given a judgment in the amount of $1,677 against him. Whether we will ever see a penny is questionable, as he has threatened to move back to Pennsylvania and is pretty hard to track down. We do intend to file a lien against his property.

I learned, in February, that he had pulled a similar stunt on an old friend of mine. We had not seen one another in a few years, got together and began complaining about our lousy, lying, undependable contractors only to find we both were talking about the same man; Randy Snodgrass dba Ran Carpentry.

Stay away from this slimeball if you have any remodeling or roofing to be done. And, whatever you do, do NOT pay him anything up front.
