Community Reading Club ripoff, magazine scam, cannot cancel, dozens of phone calls per day Great Falls

So this goes along with the other rip off reports of CRC. I have no * idea where this company is actually located. I would get letters from Georgia, calls from Florida, and return letters to send back to Montana... This is the intricate scam I have seen in a while but I am getting ahead of myself. Let me start at the beginning:

Somehow CRC obtained my cell phone number and called me a few months back to offer me a magazine deal. It was 49.95 a month but I would also be getting a free weekend anywhere in the country if I signed up then. I admit, I am very sheltered and gullible so I remained on the phone. The guy talked so fast and was so excited for me that I couldn't help but think that maybe I had struck good fortune but alas & I had been duped. And duped HARD. I started getting magazines... Every week. All kinds of magazines - magazines I had never heard of and didn't want. But months went by and I had not gotten my weekend trip. I was tired of spending money on magazines that I had no desire to read. I got so many magazines a week that you could no longer see the carpet in my bedroom from the piles of magazines. Every day I got angrier and angrier. So a few weeks ago I tried to call the number that showed up on my credit card statement when they would deduct money from my account. I was told that that I had a verbal agreement, that they had tapes of my voice agreeing to the terms and that there was no way I could get out of the contract or cancel.

I was so stunned I just hung up the phone. I stewed for a week. I told my bank to stop processing their deductions. They called me several times every day to tell me that they couldn't get money out of my account (Duh!) and that they would send me to collections if I didn't pay. I got letters from them threatening the same thing.

How can they do this to people? How can I be bound to something when I didn't even sign a contract and they never bothered to hold up their part of the bargain... How can companies like this exist? How can you NOT cancel? I don't want magazines anymore so stop giving me the service and I will stop paying for the service - done deal. I don't understand why they waste so much time and effort, scamming and threatening people. Wait. I take that back. I know why they do it. Because most people would be so frustrated at this point that they would just keep paying them money and writing it off as a bad experience. But if people don't stand up for their consumer rights - how can we get these exploitative corporations to change?

For my situation, I have written a cancellation letter and threatened to go to the Attorney General - but I am almost certain that sending this letter to a subsidiary PO Box address will go nowhere. I need to write to the corporate office. Does anyone have this information? I would really appreciate it.
