LL Bean's Chinos and cords - Chino trousers

Shops, Products, Services

I have been buying Bean's pants for decades, but I have decided that I have to switch to more stylish designs. Their chinos and cords are of excellent quality and worth the price, but alas, they are too baggy. They come in "classic" ("our trimmest cut") and "natural fit" ("relaxed through hips and thighs"). The only problem is they are about 10" wide at the bottom and increase in width as you go up the leg. Not only that but they sag in the seat, so I get the feeling I am walking around in a tent. They are styled like something out of the 'fifties. It's not as though I am thin as a stick — I am 5' 9" tall, weigh 175 lbs and have a 38" waist. Even for stout men, the pants are too baggy in my estimation, and do not hide extra weight but seem to exaggerate it. The current trend seems to range from "skinny jeans" at about 7" at the bottom to "slim cut" from about 8 to 8 1/2" inches for a maximum of 9" at the bottom. It's also not as though I am a twenty-something — I am well past middle age, but I am tired of looking like a schlump in Bean's pants. So please get out of the 1950's and somewhere into the early 21st century.
