Bamboozled With Magazine Scam in Hollywood, California

I answered my door today to two young men claiming to be the nephews of an unknown neighbor a few streets away. They were selling magazines subscriptions to raise money for a trip to England with their school. I thought it was a little fishy but wrote out two checks anyhow. Once I had the receipts in hand I went back in the house and did an internet search for the company and realized that it is a total scam from numerous postings, including the ones I found on this site (thanks). The speech they gave me about rasing money is clearly the same script they use around the country. I quickly called my bank and put a stop payment on the two checks. I hate companies that use these fraudulent tactics to sell stuff—it ruins it for real charities who are legitimately trying to raise funds. I hope this company gets shut down.
