My name is Teatra i am 36 year old mother of 5 children three boys ages 19,15, and 13 and two girls ages 10 and 8. I was living in a 2 bedroom apartment in Jacob Riis houses for 12 years along with my husband, there were 7 of us in a 2 bedroom apt. I received a letter from section 8 stating i was overcrowded so they offered me a option to accept section 8 and move to a standard size apt suitable for my family.in 2008 i found a four bedroom house in Brooklyn NY and moved in Dec i stayed there for 18 months. There were problems with the plumbing, rodents, insects and a infestation of bedbugs so i put my belongings into storage and sent my children to Georgia in June because my section 8 voucher expired. I stayed with my sister in Brooklyn NY to apply for section 8 again and they rejected me in August i applied again.in September my children came back from GA and we went into the shelter system they placed my children and i at 401 East 21 street bk ny 11226.in a 2 bedroom apartment bldg.infested with mice. We prayed and made it work because we didnt have anywhere else to go.

In November a rep (Ms. Smallwood) from section 8 called me to get info on my husband that im now separated from stating they were going to close my case but i fought for it to stay open then Ms. Smallwood said i missed my briefing appointment for sect 8 October 12. I explained that i never received an appt in the mail at all. She then explained my case to another rep and they gave me another appt for Dec 8. I was there with bells on. I made my appointment but, it then became a problem because on my new voucher was my husbands name and he isnt in my household anymore but, they never took him off when i asked them too. So i called him down to sect 8 and he submitted paystubs and all info they needed to prove that his address was different from mine. I then had to further prove that my belongings were in storage so i gave them a letter proving that. I then received my new voucher December 9th. I immediately looked for a 4 bedroom apartment.in January i found a 4bedroom house BEAUTIFUL. When i go to turn my package into NYCHA at 787 Atlantic ave. The rep told me my voucher was not good because my case is CLOSED! I cried.

I sent a letter to correspondence unit in Manhattan NY and it is now March and i still have no response. My case manager Sherry King called me into her office and then explained that the shelter no longer has a voucher for us to move out with so i would have to safe up some money and move out on my own. I need help i am working but, i work part-time and its not enough to take care of my kids. The shelter managers have no remorse and its not fair because i make my way through and because i need help and am living in a shelter im being treated like dirt. She also told me that i have until April 1 or maybe she can extend it to May 1 if i save and pay the first month rent. What will happen to the next month. I am begging, calling and praying that they re-instate my SECTION 8. I was told that they cancelled the fair hearing i requested. My life is in turmoil and i have too much to live for. Please help me receive a voucher or housing that i can move out on. I do not want to move every year.
