Late Registration

Today is September 2nd (9/2). I got a "Notice of Deliquent Renewal". I was informed that my renewal was due on 7/24. However if I paid it by 8/24 (30 day grace period) I would not have to pay the late fee. The damned letter was postmarked 8/31. I didn't have a chance... If this had been a department store, some department of the state would have been all over this. But the state, because they can write the rules, can get away with this. I am extremely angry about this. I can vote the politicians out of office but what can you do to a bureaucrat?
