United Blood Services Of Arizona
Waited 30 minutes to donate, sent away before interview, staff wanted to go home so we were dismissed erroniously

Politics & Government

My husband and I walked onto a United Blood Services Bloodmobile with the intention of donating. We both decided upon seeing the bus that we would give once we finished our dinner as we have done before. Both of us were in PERFECT health. We signed in about 1/2 hour before the time for ending the drive was posted, read all their "stuff" and were forced to wait nearly 30 minutes.

We never got taken in to be interviewed and get the so-called physical, but we were told by a staff member that we had colds and couldn't donate. Then the staff sent us off the bus. It was obvious to us and the other donating people that the staff were in a huge hurry to leave and thus didn't feel like taking any other donors.

We stood outside in shock, and met another gentleman who was made to wait even longer than us, and was also told he had a cold. He was also surprised and agreed the staff was in a rush and didn't want to work longer to accomodate those of us who want to donate at the end of the day.

Apparently, the UBS employee had a crystal ball, since she diagnosed three asymptomatic people she had not even talked with, as being sick. We were repeat, NOT SICK! How lazy are these people? Don't they feel the importance of blood donations as we do? Is getting home on time their main priority? And if we had been sick, shouldn't we have been told so, before waiting 1/2 hour while contaminating the place with our so-called germs?

So, we are now donating to the Red Cross. They gladly took our blood and within hours of this awful experience, we gave to them. My husband and I successfully donated, and we gave without incident.

United Blood Services must care little about the need for donations if their employees are treating people like this. My guess is they don't want to pay their employees overtime, vs meeting the need for blood in Arizona.

Also, according to this website, they may be pushing the criteria for "non-profits." Somehow, I'm not surprised.
