How funny. We attended an auction that this man was running.
My winning bid on one item was magically recorded as $50 more than the amount I bid (and won it for since i was the only one bidding on it!)

On another lot, I had bid one time. One time only. At the opening bid price. Someone else was bidding against me, someone I'd seen helping the auctioneer earlier. Maybe the guy really wanted the item he was upping my bid on... But when the auctioneer (Roy) yelled that I was the high bidder (for a bid much higher than the one I placed), I refused and told him no I had not bid that much. Roy got really disgusted, and said "Well we still have this lot at the opening bid then". Really? What about his little friend who was bidding against me, whose bid was higher than the opening bid, and presumably higher than mine at some point, enough to drive my ONE bid up! WHy wasn't it then HIS lot, since his second bid (higher than my first, one, only) was higher than mine? Then ROY tried to embarass me into taking the higher bid by making disparaging comments. Sorry, OLD BOY, maybe you can pull that crap with other people but you picked the wrong person to play that tune with.

Yeah we were very happy (not) to go pay and find out the tab was $50 more than what we had bid. From now on, we are videotaping all our winning bids, thanks to scumbags like this dirty auctioneer. Especially if we see that he will be running an auction, we'll make damned sure it's recorded. And someone please tell him to stop using terms like 'It's so rare', "you don't see many of these", "you can't hardly find these" etc. People nowadays are not THAT stupid! Or, maybe he just assumes we are, since he seems like he knows how to swindle.
