State Representative Is Member Of A Lobbying Agency
Texas Legislators Listed As Members Of Lobbying Group! Ripping Off Constituents? Conflict Of Interest? Conflict of Interest - State is supposed to REGULATE This Industry NOT Join their Lobby Group

Politics & Government

While looking through a membership roll of ASSIST which is an organization of Private Security Guard Contractors and Private Investigators in Texas, I happened upon a name of a politicians Texas State Representative Pat Haggerty of El Paso County, Texas. He is a member of the House of Representatives.

State Senator Mike Jackson of Harris County, Texas is listed on their membership rolls as well.

It is accessible on their website which I can't list here but you can google it and see for yourself.

ASSIST is an organization that according to their Mission Statement taken directly from their site: "is committed to the enhancement of security services for Texas citizens. We are dedicated to promoting and safeguarding high standards in the security industry through quality training programs for security officers, CHAMPIONING OF APPROPIATE LEGISLATIVE and continuous improvement initatives, and promoting and sustaining constructive dialogue among security professionals in Texas." (I did not write this, it comes directly from their web site.)

Sounds like some lobbying and a desire to influence legislation MIGHT be going on here. I wonder if it has to do with more humane working conditions, higher wages, better benefits for the security officers in the field and actually MAKING these people PAY workman's compensation for a change and not allowing them to operate without it!

Seems that House and Senate members in Texas, write, approve Legislation which can influence this industry.

Private Security Guard contracting services and investigative services are supposedly under the control of Texas Department of Public Safety 's Bureau of Private Security — A STATE AGENCY which is subject to the control of the State Legislature on which august body sit these two gentlemen.

Aren't these ELECTED STATE OFFICIALS supposed to be REPRESENTING ALL OF THEIR CONSTITUENCY? The guys in the uniforms deserve as much representation as the guys who OWN their work places, don't they?

Does anybody but me see a possible conflict of interests here?

This is the most recent information available on this site.
