Miscellaneous

I was called by the company saying I was entered into a VISA sweepstakes and as a VISA customer I was entitled to receive 5 titles of magazines for 5 years, paying $29.95 for 3 years. I found it difficult to say no but I thought I could get out of it after 10 days if I changed my mind. However, when I tried to cancel my order they said I had agreed to their terms and conditions by a verbal contract and I wouldn't be able to cancel. They explained that they had paid the magazine publishers the full amount and I was paying them back. They also continued to call me once or twice a month to get me to pay the amount owed in full... Eg; $300 paid off. I told them I could barely afford the $29.95 amount and got very angry when they said they couldn't cancel my order. I have now learnt that it is a scam and I feel like a chump. I am going to block my credit card so they can longer take the money out and have emailed the magazine companies to stop my subscriptions.
