Reported an accident that never happened

Recently, I was selling my used car. I had a buyer ready to purchase but they then rescinded due to a carfax report that stated "moderate" damage from an accident where I was at fault. I have been fighting with carfax since that time as the accident never occurred.

I was at work in another county the day they reported the accident and carfax said they contacted the police for a report but it had been purged so now it was my responsibility to prove it did not happen. So my question to them is how can you say something occurred when there is no proof and you have nothing to support a claim of moderate damage? This is ridiculous. I had to lower the price on my car to get it sold but apparently I am not alone in my complaint for carfax reporting accidents that never happened. I would love to see a class action suit and also some publicity to let people know that misrepresentation of the facts is occurring with carfax. People (including myself) always thought you could trust carfax! Not!!
