Miscellaneous

Just after I topped up my son's phone, my son received two text messages — the number of the sender that showed was 2525. Both claimed he had very little money left on his phone: 40 pence in once instance and 70 pence in the other. Both invited him to "top up by phone" stating that he had registered a credit card and all that was needed was the last four digits of the card number and the three-digit code on the back.in fact, I had used a debit card to top up the phone, but I specifically did NOT register it with T-Mobile (his PAYG provider). I believe that these messages were clearly an attempt to scam him out of more money, perhaps by making him believe the top-up I did hadn't worked. It was after receiving these two texts that we then received one from T-Mobile saying the top-up was successful and that his balance was (as expected) £5.20. I'm not sure how someone might be able to "listen in" on the top-up call made using 150, presumably recording the card number (entered by pressing the key-pad on the phone), but this would appear to be the case. Why there were two responses, each stating differing small amounts for the balance (neither of which tallied with the known balance of 20 pence) I also can't say, but I became very suspicious, didn't respond, and will, in future, top up using some other means!
