I also responded to a ad on craigslist for clerical position. I received letter very similar and to me it sounded kinda fishy but i figured i would play it out. I received the check today for 2,990.00 USD and I immediately googled the bank, I called and they told me that they are aware of the situation and that i am to just shred the check as it is a FAKE. If you receive ANY check in the mail for more than the amount, do your homework and call and verify it. Remember the age old antage... If it sounds too good to be true, it probaby is.
