Christopher James Commander
Deceptive horse trader in Gilmer, Tx apparently operating in Louisiana as well

Miscellaneous

James listed a pony for sale on one of the popular equine sale sights. I contacted him and told him I was looking for a dead broke pony for my then 8 year old daughter. He told me Teddy was dead broke, ridden daily by his 3 boys all under the age of 6. I took an adult with extensive riding experience to try him out. She did and liked him. Went a second time and my daughter rode him while James rode with her on a another horse. He said his boys were unable to come show us how easy going he was due to various activities and was VERY believable. We spent hours discussing, traveling to his location and trying him out twice. We paid James $1500 for Teddy. I thought I did everything right to insure we were doing all the right things and believe me when I say James is very good at deception. He is charming, handsome and very convincing. Teddy was here 6 weeks and it was time for the farrier. James told me he had NO issues with vets, farriers, his feet, etc. As soon as Teddy saw the tools, apron, jack of the farrier he began trembling and sweating profusely. He sat back and broke the halter. I had to send him to a trainer and her farrier husband for 30 days and he still has major trust issues with the farrier. James gave a detailed history of how Teddy had been to 100's of rodeos and arenas all over Texas and been ridden by dozens of kids of various riding abilities. After Teddy got home from the trainer we took him to a ranch rodeo. He acted as if he had never been off the farm. He was very nervous, did not know any of the patterns, (poles, barrels, etc.), acted like he had never even seen a cow. We had issues at every one of the ranch rodeos. The final straw was the one and only time my daughter rode him at night in an arena. He spooked at everything and she came off. We found out later he has an eye injury that makes him very spooky on his off side, especially in an arena at night with lights and shadows. Teddy is now a pasture ornament. My advice to you is if you cone in to contact with James run the other way and James if you read this I hope you can sleep at night. You put my precious daughter in danger by your greed. May you find God and ask for forgiveness. One other thing, read the other reports on here about James. Apparently he doesn't have any kids much less 3 boys and according to other reports buys horses at sale barns for pennies and drugs them when you come try them out, then sells them for a nice profit. Therefore, the history your given on the horse is bogus as was Teddy's obviously. Shame on you james!!
