Miscellaneous

On July 12 we had a call from a sales person of The Tax Club, offering to set up a recently started on-line business for us and to handle the taxes. The cost was $4,785 and a recurring cost of $49.95. This call was in the evening and lasted a long time. We were overwhelmed, tired and scared out of our wits listening to all this smooth talker was shoving into our ears about the tax savings in this online business which is still in its embrionic stages. He then asked us to go to the computer and e-sign (type my name on a yellow line) three such documents. He then asked for our credit card information and gave us "home work" to do - i.E. Set up a business account at our bank and obain business credit cards which they can charge.

After we rang off we had time to think about this offer and decided to cancel it. We also got an e-mail, with their website to register on. I read through the Terms and Conditions which I found impossible to agree to, and saw that we had three days to cancel. I did not sign the terms and conditions and did not go on the website. I called the number they left with us and nobody answered. I left my number and asked for a call back. I then wrote an e-mail to Client Services on July 13th, and requested cancellation of the account. On July 16th the e-mail was answered saying that they received the request to cancel and within 24-48 hours someone from the cancellations will call. Tuesday morning, the 17th someone did call and tried to persuade us not to cancel. We stood by it and he said he would call again later to see if we changed our mind. We said he could call but we will not change our mind. We requested our Credit Card not being charged.

Late afternoon we received an e-mail saying that $895 has been credited to our credit card. I checked with the Credit card company and the difference was charged, ie. Full amount of $4,785-$895. We received no services from this company, and cancelled within 24 hours. How can we get the rest of the money credited to our credit card? This is robbery and fraud! Very disappointed and angry indeed.
