Miscellaneous

Our office manager received a call from Online America who said they needed to verify our company's name, address, phone, etc. They asked her to spell her last name, since she identified herself as the o.M., and she did. It was all recorded by Online America and I was allowed to listen to the recording when I called the company to inquire about an invoice for $496.00 that had just been received for a "mini web-page portal." You can hear our O.M. Say "yes" a few times when asked to verify the company address, etc. You can then hear the salesman's voice ask her if she is authorized to make purchases for this listing. The recording sounds like it was all pieced together. If you answer yes to anything, they can make it sound like you are buying what they are selling. We had a meeting about these scams for online listings 2 years ago and it was impressed upon our employees how tricky these callers can be. We still have the same office manager and she would never, ever purchase one of these listings without upper management approval and a P.O. We are currently contesting the charges - don't believe a court would award them one cent, even with their so-called recorded "approval". Companies that operate in this manner should be shut down, blacklisted and fined for unethical business practices!
