POOR U-Haul Truck Rental/Customer Service - U-Haul truck rental

I reserved for a 14 foot truck rental pick-up on 4/27 and car carrier for a one-way trip from Chicago to California. The truck was picked up, loaded and gas filled. I was told by the store manager that the truck had just come in from the shop but was a newer model with only 4,000 on it and no problems. We began our trip and got about 20 miles outside of the city when the truck began to exhibit transmission problems. A call was made to U-Haul's "24 hour Customer Service Center" explaining the problem. I was told they could not get help to us until about 9:30 am the next morning! Since we were only about 20 miles outside the city, we advised U-Haul that we would return home and wait for service to because the serice center advised that they would need to first determine if it could be repaired. Upon arrival of the U-Haul rep, it was determined that the truck was in disrepair and needed to be replaced. To add to this, the 14 foot truck needed to be unloaded to reload unto another one. The unload was completed by my brother (no U-Haul help) and reloaded onto a 16 foot that was not requested and/or needed.

We depart the city, and began to have trouble with the older model 16 foot truck - air condition would only worked for about 2 minutes on an intermitten basis. To add to this, it too began to exhibit trans problems - gears not properly changing! Needless to say this was very costly in gas, frustration and exhausting. Having the air conditioner working improperly, caused me some very serious health concerns.

The U-Haul Customer Service center was contacted yet again after I finally reached my destination in California. Their solution - was to offer a $70 U-Haul certificate!

I've rented many U-Haul items over the years, but after this type of experience, why would they believe I would want to do any further business with U-Haul again!
