Unitech training academy sets up new students with federal loans for $9,000 plus to take classes in medical technician arts. I know because I taught there for years. They claim that graduates are employeed in their chosen profession at a rate or 90% or more, and that they (Unitech) give strong assistance in this area. They are one of at least 4 schools that teach phlebotomy and ECG classes in the Lafayette LA area. At least 40-50 students are graduated every year. I doubt that the whole Lafayette area employes more than 150 phlebotomists and ECG techs total. With at least 200/year being graduated, what do you think someone's chances are of landing a job? I had students that graduated at the top of their class, passed the national certifications (more $!) and couldn't even get a job offer after months of looking. NO ONE mentions that when they are hustled into signing up for thou$and$ in $tudent loan$. Preying upon the hopes and dreams of poor, single mothers (the most common type of student) is not only unethical. It's greedy and evil. There are professions that have need with nursing being the best example. Unitech would have to get a much higher school certification and pay its instructors significantly more though. Just another skeevy skammer in the guise of a company doing "good" in the community. Caveat Emptor indeed!
