Defamation of characte

On May 20th, I recieved an e-mail to go to their website to search for "Sex Offenders" in my neighborhood. So, after going to their website, just to see how accurate they are, I typed in my wife's first and last name as there is no allowance for middle initials, and a search result found a match to my wife's name, except the middle initial, stating that all our previous addresses, except 2, were registered to someone with a criminal record, however, the "age" and "year of birth" boxes were INCORRECT! When contacting the company by phone on Tues. May 22nd, I was passed of to a woman who only identified herself as "Joanne" (no last name was given) and told me that "they did not take responsibility for this problem because their imfo came in and was posted by, local, state, and federal authorities." I asked if they varified any of their imfo before posting it, and once again, she stated, " that they did not need to because they depended on the imfo coming in to be accurate". I informed her that the imfo that they were posting about my wife, was incorrect, and was highly suspicious in nature, and that I wanted it removed and cleared up. I was then told that if I wanted to purchase a membership for a certain fee, that I could actually go in and fix it myself. We disagreed and then she hung up. Now, if I ran a website where ANYONE could post whatever they chose to without me varifying the imfo they were posting, who would be liable here, ME or the person posting the imfo.? What, because they are a multi-million dollar business, they don't have to be accountable for the lives they ruin. Why can't they be sued for Defamation of character, Slander, Liable for Mental Anguish, and pain and suffering? You can bet your bottom dollar, if the situation was reversed, they would have an attorney ringing my phone off the hook! My wife suffers from accute anxiety and depression already, and something like thinking anyone who wants to can look her up on some website and think she's a criminal, is just the thing that could potentially send her back into a spiralling depression that she might not recover from. Is this how they like to do business? Well, I think I'm gonna give them 2 DAYS (the same amount of time they fought me on this matter) and then I'm going to see what MY attorney has to say in these matters. And when I'm finished with this company, their gonna learn to be ALOT MORE CAREFUL. And that's a fact, not a promise, not a threat... Fact.
