On Monday (04/30) I received a call from my elderly mother stating that her bank account was overdrawn by over 300.00. Since she documents all checks in her bank ledger, she knew something was wrong.in all of her years, her account has NEVER been overdrawn. She went to the bank on Monday to complain and they tracked down and printed out the electronic transaction. She was told that it was done by phone but the only thing they could find on the printout, was a toll-free number in the "memo" field. The bank rep called the number, but no one answered. Later that day, I tried calling it and the person who answered stated that they were a 3rd party Customer Service company. I told her what had happened and that someone associated with her company STOLE 448.74 from my mothers checking account. She stated that it wasn't their company and that the transaction was processed by Secure Medical Group. My mother had never heard of them but she said that someone called her back in January stating that they were calling from Medicare and when she asked him to send her they information in writing, he hung up on her. This has caused her a lot of problems. The bank is working with her in recouping the money, but in the meantime, she is still out 448.74 and because she wasn't sure if someone actually stole her identity or bank information, she changed account numbers and now she has to wait for her social security check which since it's deposited directly to her account, may not be since her account number has changed. These people are discusting. To target the most vunerable citizens who have worked all their lives and then are on a fixed income and have to deal with predators like this. I hope that these people are caught and held accountable for their despicable actions.
