Im paying for there mistake

My husband and i had our cable transferred from our old house to the new one. We havent had cable since 2010. Now all of a sudden i had a detective knocking on my door trying to say i used someone elses social security number with my name to get cable. And it just so happened the social belonged to the lady that lived in this house before us, and we do not even know her. I tried going to twc myself and they refused to talk to me, said i would have to talk to the cops. I think this is very bad that they would make a mistake like this and not fix it. Identy theft is a felony and i will be damned if i get in trouble for someone elses mistake. This screw up needs to be fixed immediately.
