Miscellaneous

Young guy, college age, claimed to be from UMBC, studying Mass Comm to become a sportscaster. Claimed to have the same shirt I was wearing, although I had bought it online close to 10 years ago. Gave the story that the magazines would be sent to overseas servicemen and that the money raised would go towards a trip to London for an internship with the BBC. Talked incessantly about family in California and acted like a frightened little girl when he spotted a stinkbug. Having sent over care packages to miliatary in the past, or helped organize them, I wanted to help. After writing out a check for $118 and getting the receipt, I hopped on the computer and went to Google. Didn't even finish typing Absolute Marketing before the word 'scam' came up. I immediately put a stop payment on the check and my wife went outside to look for him. Since he was a little on the heavy side, we didn't think he'd get far, but he was gone. We put together flyers for other buildings in the complex encouraging them to put stop payments on their checks if they handed one over.
