My 93 year old hard of hearing mother got a call a few weeks ago from someone she described as "being from India". Apparently, she must have given them her checking acct #. They stated the name of her bank and she confirmed it was correct. On 4/7 she got a statement from a "third party biller" saying they had taken $448.74 out of her account, as "authorized". I called the "third party biller", was 9th in the cue, was on hold for 19 minutes and 47 seconds. When I was first in the cue, I was disconnected! I called back immediately and was 13th in the cue. Of course, I'm at work and can't keep holding. I sent them an email and will be calling her bank. Not sure where to go next. I will be reporting this to the local PD.
