Rodney Hylton-Potts claims to be a "Top International Lawyer" and member of the New York Bar Association - he is neither. We checked with the Bar Assocation and they advised that there is no such person registered. The truth of the matter is he was struck off and served a prison sentence for fraud - which in our opinion he is still committing. If he is a top international lawyer - where is he a top international lawyer? It only came to light later after engaging his services that he was not in fact a practising lawyer and at no time did he do anything to advise that he wasn't.
On the website they claim to be cheaper an have fixed fees - i.E. For Divorce GBP695 GBP395 for Court Fees plus VAT. Application for Settlement is GBP295. The payment he was actually demanding exceeded GBP10,000 - for what? Papers were not filed, he could not appear in court due to being struck off as a legal representative. He quoted outrageous fees for Barristers and other court appearances that were supposedly necessary. The respondent's Solicitor was becoming very frustrated due to the fact that he was not getting the replies necessary to complete the proceedings.
Mr Hylton-Potts repeatedly asked for the same documents or similar documents to be completed and appeared to forget the documentation had been completed previously, lost paperwork and did not appear to be familiar with the case at all. It became apparent on a meeting with Mr Hylton-Potts that he was appearing to dictate letters regarding the respondents belongings which we now feel he pretended to do as none of the "dictated" letters actually reached the respondent.
In short he did not seem to compile a case at all. We decided to dispense with his services due to not being able to afford the fees he was deducting on a monthly basis collection fees. He did not cancel a court appearance which could have left us in trouble and did not advise the court he was no longer representing.
He is now holding documents and demanding more money and sending threatening requests for further payment. The demands for money look as though they have not even been written by someone with a basic education - let alone from a so called "Top International Lawyer".
Unfortunately it is not illegal to offer someone legal advice if you are not actually a lawyer. However, stricter measures should be in place to prevent people such as this from operating.
