Miscellaneous

I was scanning the internet for something else entirely when a magazine page flashed up with a lady telling us how a certain face cream worked wonders. There were items and photographs and that kind of thing. For the cost of postage alone one trial product could be mine! I read and reread the article and saw no subscription fee or, indeed, any cancellation of subscription information.
So I sent for the trial product. It was a long time coming but I was debited $5 at the end of January. Since then, my Visa Card has been debited with $141.50 (£92.11) on 18th February & $146.15 (£94.75) on 4th March.

As soon as I saw these entries on my statement I rang the credit card company to tell them to cancel them and that I would not pay these charges nor any interest that accrued. They knew immediately the name of the company involved and admitted that they were having problems with them with other customers. I asked for my card to be cancelled but they informed me that this would not stop the charges going through. All they could do would be to send me a form to cancel the subscription that I had never agreed to and, as soon as this form is received by them duly completed by me, they will monitor my account and prevent further charges being debited thereon.
