Scam Invoice via Fax

Like Michelle reported on 3/14, we received an invoice for shipping boxes that we had not ordered. I wanted to thank Michelle for helping us confirm our strong suspicions that this was a bogus invoice. I will note that our invoice, though bearing a different invoice number than the one sent to Michelle, contains the exact same description, quantity and amount. So I guess their sales staff has made the same "mistake" of invoicing people by fax for 98 medium shipping boxes over and over again. The date of Michelle's invoice was 1 day before mine, and the invoice number was about 1500 numbers apart—I shudder to think that this same invoice is in the hands of 1500 other A/P departments, and there will be some small percentage that actually makes payment to these criminals and makes their mass faxing of bogus invoices worthwhile.

I did some research, and found very little except Michelle's report, so I would imagine that this is a "fresh" scam that has just been unleashed.
