Responded to an ad in Craig's List for a personal assistant. The guy said he was a photographer working out of the UK right now and would pay $390 a week for me to carry out thinks like booking appointments, flights, hotels, etc. I warily agreed, and he already had my resume and information, and waited to see what would happen next.

This morning I received a FedEx envelop from Hardware, Inc.in Weatherford, TX containing a check for almost $3,000. I was told to deposit it and take out $2,000 to send to a travel agent in Illinois (with no street address provided). This was all SUPER fishy to me.

I sat on it for a couple of hours and decided to take it to my bank and see what one of the bank reps thought of my situation. The woman smiled kindly and said the whole thing was a common type of fraud, and that I had done the right thing. According to her, the check and his name and e-mail will be submitted to either the state or federal fraud investigation services.

What a day.
