Miscellaneous

I just received a call from a gentleman (with an Indian accent) claiming to be from Microsoft. The caller ID on my phone showed 'Seattle'. He indicated that their reports are showing my computer has been severely infected by a virus and he expressed the importance of getting it resolved quickly. He convincingly walked me through screens of information, and ultimately requested remote access to my pc. That was the point that I got a little leary but allowed him to continue (taking notes along the way). He wrote an itemized list (in Notepad) of what needed to be accomplished, the additional benefits of 24X6 (6?) customer service, and the software name, ifixyrpc.com. The total cost was $177.78. All I needed to do was type my email address on the screen to get started.
I advised I was not interested, and after a hard sales pitch, we hung up. I immediately rebooted my pc (hoping to break the connection with him).
No money spent, but now curious about the information he showed me.
