Heartland America
No Merchandise/No Refund

Miscellaneous

My uncle ordered a guitar and a set of harmonicas from Heartland America back on November 9. About a week later, the harmonicas arrived, but no guitar. Assuming that it would soon arrive, he gave it another two weeks. When he heard nothing, he decided to give them a call. Then, and only then was he told that the original guitar that he ordered was no longer in stock and that Heartland America took the liberty to upsell his order to a more expensive guitar. He would need to send them an additional $12.96 before the order could be shipped out. He did so promptly, thinking that they would ship the guitar as soon as they got the additional funds. After about another two weeks, he again had to call them to find out where his merchandise was. They told him that they had arranged with some other factory to fill the order and that they hadn't been given a tracking number. He called weekly after being told this, and was told the same thing over and over again, and that they couldn't or "wouldn't" do anything until they had obtained a tracking number.

As my uncle is 76 and probably not as sharp in dealing with these kinds of things, he had me call them on February 2nd. I initially spoke to "Sonya" on that date (it was a Wednesday), and she told me that the woman who handles the refunds (which is what I told them he wanted) wouldn't be in until that Friday and that she would call me then to straighten this out. Suspecting that I wouldn't hear from them Friday, which I didn't, I called them again the following day and spoke to "Lilly." After I explained to her that he no longer wanted the guitar, he just wanted his money back, she then asked if I would like to speak to a supervisor. I replied in the affirmative and was transferred to "Joanna" who told me the same thing about a tracking number. I told her that I didn't believe a company of their size would do business like that, so I didn't buy her story. She then got very defensive trying to elicit a negative response from me. It was a waste of time. She asked me if I was calling her a liar. I told her I was just simply stating that I wasn't buying the nonsense and that my uncle wanted his refund. Getting nowhere with her, I then took to the internet and came up with about 6 agencies that I sent letters to, including the Attorney General's office in Minnesota.in each letter, I included copies of the letters I sent to all the other agencies. We'll see where this gets us. To be continued.
