Getting Cash Refund

I wanted to get a refund for a cash purchase made yesterday at Tysons Galleria store in Maclean, VA for $980. The store management refused to give my cash back citing that it was their store policy to send checks within 2-3 weeks, as they consider cash as the same as personal checks? (pointing to the fine prints at the back of the receipt that mentions nothing at all about cash refunds). This is the first time I've ever heard anything like that, all the other so called high end shops in the same mall give cash refunds, and do not require their customers to wait 2 to 3 weeks to get their money back. They treated me as if it was my fault for not using a credit card to make purchase just because that's how all the other customers apparently shop there. I also detested the snobby and unhelpful attitudes of the sales clerks there, absolutely doing nothing to even appear to be helpful. I guess to them a thousand dollar is just too petty a sum for any hassle. As a loyal customer of the RL clothing up to this point, this was a very disappointing and frustrating experience, and I'll be sure to inform all of my acquaintances of RL cash refund policy so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
