Back in late November I placed an order for some Christmas stocking stuffers for my wife. Well, it's well past Christmas Day and I have received nothing from MotherNature.com. The "track order" section of the site has reported that my order is allegedly processing (whatever that means) at the warehouse (wherever that is) since late last month, and while my credit card was charged immediately my items are yet to ship. The site does not permit you to cancel or modify an order once it is "processing" and your order begins to process at their spectral warehouse just as soon as the site charges your credit card. Yes, it's all very suspicious.

Their customer service people are unresponsive (a dozen or more unanswered emails) and the 800 number (800-439-5506, ext. 106) redirects callers to a chronically full voicemail box. The domain name is registered to someone named R (obert) Whitney Anderson, 322 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10010, email: whitney@mothernature.com. Their NYC office phone number is 212-279-4350 and their fax number is 212-279-4290. You can find Anderson's profile on LinkedIn.com. Anderson's direct extension is 108 although you'll never find him there. The business address is a dilapidated three-story walk-up on the corner of seveth Avenue and 28th Street. Its most notable tenant is The Greek Corner Coffee Shop Diner. Business records list MotherNature.com's "offices" as occupying the premises at Apartment 3F, so this is clearly a front or the apartment of one of their principals.

The original MotherNature.com was founded by an Ohio chiropractor named Dr. Mark Kowalski of 5151 Post Road in Dublin, OH. He sold the business to R. Whitney Anderson in 2006. Anderson and his COO, Dan Krebs, have made a fortune gathering together domain names for retail websites specializing in vitamins and alternative healthcare products. Scan the web and you'll find hundreds of complaints against their many sites.
