On November 11 th I used Hotwire.com to reserve a room for 5 days. The reservation was to start on the 15th of Nov I wish I had read all the scam reports before engaging with them. Much as all the rest of the people scammed, I was given a hotel that was less than the rating they promised. But what seemed really obviously fraudulent is that my confirmation page congratulated me for saving 42% on that room. It charged me $121/ night and said that was a 42% savings over other websites offering it for $200. When I verified online, all the other sites including the hotel's site, offered the room for $123/night. A $2 savings. But not really because Hotwire also tags on over$100 in fees. I called Hotwire right away. They must be trained for this judging by all the complaints out there and by the attitude I got.
The customer rep. Was rude. He argued that somewhere in cyber land there may be someone offering this seedy motel for $200. I pointed to the fact that this must be either a mistake or fraud. He would not pass me to the manager or give out any names of his superiors. I wanted my money back. Anything I said was responded to by a mechanical tone" sorry you feel this way" and " I won't discuss this" I called my bank to stop payment but somehow it went through. My bank would not fight the charges because I had given Hotwire my card information.
This is outrageous and must be stopped.
It is clear they know they are scamming people.
