This fraudulent outfit sent me an e-mail in 2010 that somebody nominated me to be included in Madison Who's Who in academia. I completed an on-line form that the e-mail directed me to and a few weeks later, somebody from the company spent along time on the phone getting information on my academic background, achievements and career. At the end of this, I was informed of about a $1500 life membership fee which I refused to accept. Eventually the con artist telemarketer convinced me to accepted a one year membership for $99. When I got the bill though, it was for about $140. I did not mind. I paid the charge with my American Express card. After the month I gave the caller from Madison Who's Who my American Express card information, I started to see a $19.95 charge on my card monthly statement. I called American Express and initiated a fraud investigation for the charges by Madison Who's Who. After talking to American express, I went on the internet to check on Madison Who's Who and to my surprise, this outfit is all over the internet as a scam outfit.

I am glad that I only use American Express card for online and mail order purchases. All a card member has to do with American Express is report fraud, suspicious charges or question a charge. The company initiates a fraud investigation, recovers fraudulent charges from culprit and promptly issues you a new card. You never have to worry about fraud if you pay through American Express. The company takes care of you.
