Miscellaneous

I received a call from a man (with an Asian-Indian accent) who claimed that my online loan application had been approved for $1500.00. He rambled on about terms and conditions, etc., and then went into a rant about a USA Shopper line of credit to purchase products, but the cost was $99.00 one time fee, and 14.95 per month thereafter. I received 2 customer service numbers from these two Indian men that were fraudulent, and went to non-connected companies. The numbers were: 818-380-5710, and 800-475-0797 (which was the "ProActive" company that knew nothing about my loan app.) This offer was a complete scam. I have learned that in our Country, as consumers, we are NOT protected from these types of operations, and I am extremely upset that American telecommunications companies are putting us in harms way by permitting unverified foreign entities to purchase disposable phone numbers to conduct these scams. We Americans need to address these scams through Congress and force legislation that will prevent these types of operations from transpiring in America so easily.

As a result of this type of scam, having given this operation ALL of my personal information; social security, driver's license, bank information, etc., I am now having to close my bank account, open a new one, and redirect my Social Security Direct Deposits to a new bank account.

I would STRONGLY recommend to anyone to be extremely careful in doing business online. It's a wide procedure to "google" any online companies you may be "in the process" of doing business with. I.E. Google: "complaints about [company name]." Look into this stuff before giving out personal information. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache.

This experience transpired only hours ago, and I will try to repost any updates as they occur. I have contacted the U.S. Justice Department's Cyber Crimes Unit about these people.
