Someone called my 80 year old father "collect" and pretended to be "his grandson" calling from Germany (saying he was at a wedding over there). Out drinking, got in a wreck, and was in jail. Had to have cash $2800 to get out on bail. Then when remarked the grandson didn't sound like him, he said he had a cold. Asked why he didn't call his mom, he said he was embarrassed and I would be mad. He put his "attorney" on the phone, wanted him to get a money order and gave an address in Roscigno, Italy to mail it to (different name). Asked did he have enough money to do that and it would cost $130 fee to send it. Daddy told him he had the money but it would take a couple of hours to get to the bank and then get the money order to send Western Union. They asked for his cell phone number, so they could call him as soon as it was complete. He told them his cell phone didn't call Germany. So they agreed to call back in two hours.in an hour and 1/2 they called back and wanted the Money Transfer Control number. Daddy told them there was no number on the form. They told him to go back where he bought it and get them to tell him the number, they needed that to pick up the money order, and they'd call back in 20 minutes. They did call back, but he told them, they said the number was on the receiving end just stalling them. We were trying to trace the call as Daddy does not have caller ID on his phone. They finally got frustrated trying to determine the number and Daddy hung up... Don't know if there will be further phone calls.
