Attorney at law I am 76 years old and am now threatened with a $10000 fine and jail time over maybe a $350 payday loan. Help|

On Jul 8 I received an email from this Jerry Smith attorney at law threatening me with a $10000 fine and Jail time if I do not send him $1000 right away to settle a $350 payday loan which may have happened over 6 years ago I honestly dont know. I know I may owe alot of money and have outstanding debts but that does not reach in no way is it considered criminal.infact I have never been arrested for anything. Now I am 76 years old and for the last 12 years have been looking after my bed ridden wife and living on ssi and a small disability pension from the VA. We live below the poverty line and receive state help which is a god send for my wife. Sadly last night after my wife read the email from Jerry Smith she took a turn for the worst and might not recover this time as she believes I am going to jail as we do not have the $1000 to settle this problem. I served 6 years active service and had alot of good friends die protecting the very freedom that is being taken away from me. I never knew that the us government was a collection agency for some marketing company in the Bahamas
and will throw me in jail if I do not pay up immediately. Surely there must be some law protecting us old veterans from undue harassment from collection lawyers like Jerry Smith Attorney at law.
