False Accusation!

On thursday, June 30 - my four young children and I were at the 3005 south 6th Thornton's gas station in Springfield, IL - We got some fountain drinks and proceeded to the cash register. I told the cashier that I wanted to Pre-pay $25.00 on pump #10 along with the fountain sodas. As he swipes my debit card, he tells me that card didnt go thru and that I didnt have enough money. I asked if they had an ATM machine. I checked my balance and walked out to my suburban SUV with my children and called my bank to figure out what had happened.

As I was sitting in my truck on the phone with my bank, the cashier comes storming out of the store, steps in front of my truck, screaming, yelling stating that I cannot leave until I pay up. He tells me that I am going to jail and that he was going to call the cops, have me arrested for trying to drive off without paying. Mind you, all my kids are hearing all this about their mommy going to JAIL! So, my kids were in the backset real upset, crying and scared. I told him that he should get his facts straight before he comes at me with accusation! I followed him inside the store, the cashier yells at his manager to come out from the backroom, he tells her that I was stealing fuel, and that i was trying to drive off without paying. She walked to the register, and noticed that there was "NO Transaction" and that we were free to go. I said, oh no... This is not right, I was just accused by your staff member of stealing in front of my children. Something has to be done about this, its so humiliating!

I am very upset, my kids to this day are having nightmare, thinking that mommy is going to be taken to jail - my youngest asked if the guy from the store was still going to call the police on me. This is a very serious manner. I want to make sure that his coached on how to handle customer service, or even terminated. I want to hear from someone regarding this matter. I am emotionally distress, falsely accused and embarrassed in front of the store patrons and specially my chilren. I have contacted my lawyer about this incident.
