Elastic String Broken

I have never purchased Skechers before, however after trying on several other sport shoes I decided that the Skechers was the most comfortable fit, and the style 21159/WHT was quite acceptable. I put them on one day after purchase and the elastic band on the top of the shoe broke. I was extremely disappointed, as I paid a rather high price for shoe and to find it defective left me wondering if I should have strayed away from the comfort-sport shoe's I have purchased in the past. There was no hard wear on the shoe, I am a 69 year old grandmother, and not into running, power walking or athletics. I suppose this falls into the "once bitten twice shy" category!
