Deceptive buisness practice

I received a laser rangfinder as a gift from my mother in law that was purchased at Dicks and she had removed the UPC for a rebate. I called Dicks Lancaster Ohio location and asked if I could return it as it is an inferior unit and explained completely about the missing UPC to a male sales person and he said to bring it in and they would refund the sale price no problem. He said we will take care of you. My wife drove to the store on snow covered roads and tried to return it and talking to the female store manager she was told no and implied I was lieing that no one would have told that they would take it back with the missing UPC. I then called Dicks Grove City location and they told me the same thing the first sales associate had told me to bring it back and they would refund the money. I think this is a deceptive sales practice to get you in to the store. I used to be a Dicks customer but no more and will tell everyone I know about this incident so they can be forewarned of dealing with someone that would call you a liar after explaining the the complete situation to them.
