Side moldings starting to peel off and turning rust colo

My 2007 avalanch side panels moldings begin to turn color on on top and begin coming loose & curling up on the ends. The off color then begin to turn as if rusting. Dealer said it was not rust because the panels are rubber & was a factory defect. Due to the mileage on the vehicle, the warranty does not cover this and it would be in excess of 400 to 600 dollars to get them replaced which i can't afford. For 4 pieces of side molding??
