Breech of trust and contract

My mother had a safe deposit box with BB&T, which was only in her name. She kept all of her valuables such as Jewerly, Cash, titles and so on. She has always kept a large amounts of cash and did not allow any one an access. Unfortunately, she passed away in June. Her husband, who she did not trust was allowed in to the safe deposit box by BB&T employees on two occasions even though his name was not on it. He forged her signature and stoled her safe deposit key from her purse when she was in comatose, and emptied the safe deposit box. I tried to ask the BB&T for help but they refused help and did not even attempt to retrieve any of her property. I strongly believe this is breech of contract and the bank should be 100% responsible and should do everything to remedy this problem.
