AC/Compressor - Ford Focus

I purchased a 2007 Ford Focus, July 27, with 17,000 miles. Jan. Of 2009 it started making a noise under the hood, then in May my a/c went out, Now in Nov. 2009 it has 25,000 miles on it. Took it in for repairs, their auto-tech told me that the a/c compressor needed to be replaced for $800.00 and it wasn't covered under warranty. I am very confused as to why this service is not covered under warranty
