Homecenter.com, Brian Okin
Brian Okin, CEO I thought I was a customer, but discovered I was merely another mark for a con-man

Miscellaneous

This small company operated by CEO Brian Okin is simply a con game disguised as a real business. They advertise virtually all of the products on their website to be in stock, and if you call the sales person will verify that whatever you want is in stock.in fact they stock nothing. Although their website displays a large warehouse, they send purchase orders to various manufacturers after you place your order. After you order, you receive an email informing you that your order has a 2-3 week lead time. At that point, you have the option of paying an undisclosed amount more for prompt shipment (described as their drop ship program), waiting an indeterminate amount of time for your order to ship, or you can cancel your order for a fee of 40% of the order total (25% for restocking plus 15% for return authorization, even though you never receive a product to return). The con game is to advertise a low price to attract a mark, immediately charge the mark's credit card, then sit and wait for the mark to complain. If the mark needs the product in a specifc time frame, they offer to ship it sooner for a large fee. If the mark wants their money back, they offer to cancel the order for a large fee. This business (aka scam) is all about charging fees to unsuspecting customers (i.E. Marks). Please tell anyone you know and care about to avoid this company at all costs.
