I suspected a ripoff but I thought I could outsmart them. Boy was I wrong! This company advertise rental properties for owners and they charge the searcher (me) for the information. When I called about a listed property, the salesman told me there were LOADS of listings in my area with my particular requirements (furnished, 2 or 3 BR apts) but I had to come into the office. It was an inconvenient 45 minute drive to downtown Dallas but they had my interest.
When I went to the office the girl wanted my money before showing any listings. I should have walked then. I asked for 1BR, furnished apts in Bedford or Euless but she said I had to pick an area. I picked a wider area that included those two and paid for the listings. Surprise, none in Bedford or Euless but a couple actually south of Dallas not even in my chosen area. Surprise, all unfurnished! The girl added in houses, condos, and townhouses even though I didn't request them. I requested rents up to $400 but she put $550 in the computer. She was trying to get more listings to come up. I asked for my money back immediately but of course she refused. I called their office in Shreveport but I had to talk to Dan Jacob after 6PM. He refused when I finally got hold of him.
Jacob referred me to the "contract" I signed and said I had to use the service for 32 of the first 41 days to get a 50% refund. Next to impossible for most people. I used the servce via the internet for 35 of the first 41 days and applied for the refund. SURPRISE, they refused. They checked their internet log and said I only used it 8 times. I've since done some research and rent max are the only ones that can verify the internet usage of their website by users like myself. Convenient way to cover up their SCAM.
They only charge $59 for phone service or $71 for internet service so they probably figure most people will just walk away. They don't return phone calls but will talk to you if you happen to get through at the right time. They don't return emails or respond to snail mailings.
Personally, it wasn't a very expensive rip off but those $59/$71 contracts sure add up for them. As always - buyer beware!
