My husband and I booked a cruise with Norweigen the first of January. We were looking forward to going to New Orleans then boarding the ship taking the cruise to Cozemel. Belize, Guatemala and back to spend a few days in New Orleans. We purchased the cruise, plane tickets and reserved rooms in New Orleans. We thought at the time we purchased insurance on everything. Four days before we were set to leave my husband was rushed in for emergency surgery. The following day he was back in surgery. It became apparent we would not be able to make the trip because he is still in the hospital. I immediately began to make the cancellation calls. I had no problem cancelling motels, dinners, even plane tickets. Everyone was very nice and wished us well. Then I called Norweigen the first thing I was told was that I had never purchaced travel insurance (I take some responsibilty for this because I did not carefully read my cruise documents) After discussing that, I ask the manager I spoke to if there anything I could do. He said no I was out of luck and he was extreamly rude about it. I said I understand it is late notice but couldn't we get a little credit on another cruise or at least refund our port charges since we wouldn't go to the ports. He said he would do nothing for me. He was rude, arrogent and not one bit kind. I understand that times are tight. If he would have just shown a little empathy. So I say I will never again deal with this company. We have gone one a number of cruises with other cruise lines and have never been treated so badly. Stay away from Norweigen Cruise Lines.
