On January 26 I contacted Enterprise Rent A Car to make a reservation for an automobile to be picked up at Phoenix, AZ on February 15. I told them that I would be using some Reward Points from my credit card to cover some of the cost.
They made the reservation, gave me a confirmation number and quoted me a rate. They told me to contact my credit card company, get the Reward Points Certificate and call the 800 number on the certificate to give them the numbers.
I received the Certificate, called Enterprise the next day at the number on the Certificate, as instructed, confirmed the Reservation made the previous day with the Confirmation number they had given me and all was taken care of... I thought.
The next day I check my email and Lo and Behold I had received another confirmation for my rental from Enterprise. It had the same confirmation number, same pick up day, same pick up time, same drop off day, same drop off time... BUT the charge for the rental had been increased.
This concerned me so I called Enterprise and requested an explanation for the increased cost. They informed me that I had given them the Certificate numbers 1 day after making the reservation and that the charge at that time was greater than it was the day before when I made the original reservation.
I tried to explain that while I might be a bit naive, I beleived that when a reservation was made for a quoted and confirmed price that I should be able to rely on it. They then tried to blame my credit card company for not informing me that the charge might be different. I told them that I could not accept that because it was their responsibility to inform me of their charge policy changes.
They refused to honor their original quoted price. I told them that while the increased charge was not excessive, it WAS disturbing and that I would be making a formal complaint. The man informed me that I certainly had that right.
Because I have already used the Rewards Certificate for this rental I will use it, but because of their deceptive business practice, I will not be doing any business with Enterprise Rent A Car in the future.
I would strongly recommend that anyone wanting to rent an automobile consider using any other rental company rather using Enterprise Rent A Car.
