Progress Energy outlandish rates and fees

I have been a customer over six years with Progress Energy. I have never had my service disconnected nor submitted any insufficient funds on my account my entire time with this company. I have submitted payment a few days late at times and was charged a late few for doing so each time. I am now being told that due to fact that I was late a few times I will have to submit a deposit of $162 for the new address that I am moving to this week. I feel that is double dipping I am charged a late fee for submitting the bill late and now I am being charged an outlandish fee to move my service to a new address because of those late fees.

After making this complaint I received a bill double what my charges normally are. The only explanation I received was that we had tempertures drop for x-amount of days. I never changed my thermostat during that time but was told that they no longer come out to homes to read meters. Rates are based on some type of estimates (along with some other jeberish that I can't recall) but bottom line the rep advised that this was my bill and I had to submit payment. I have no other company to go to for utility service so what recourse do I have but to pay.

Government needs to really look into the fees of all utility companies and provide some way for competition. Customers need a choice of who provides them utility service. The energy companies will continue to abuse their power if they continue to monoplize their demographic markets
