Norton - Symantec Corporation
Totally wasted my time with circular transfers from US to Indian contractors

Miscellaneous

Norton/Synamtec has a practice of "Auto Renew" which you have to opt out of after purchasing their "Norton" anti virus software. If you're like me, you like to make your purchases personally rather than be coopted into an auto purchase. When you order online, it appears that you can opt out at that point, but, that is not the case. After ordering, I checked to see if, in fact, I was not in the auto renew category. Well, I was, and it pissed me off. I tried to call their toll free number, which is very hard to obtain, and is routed to contractors in India who are difficult to understand, and of little help. I finally had to log into their tech chat avenue, and after dealing with a person named Praktash, who appeared to be using translation software on his/her end of the line, finally took me off the auto renew option. I then researched the number of their corporate headquarters, (not a toll free number), called them on my dime, and was on hold for 15 minutes, until I reached an "operator". I asked to talk to someone whom I could register a complaint with about their poor customer service. She said OK, and propmtly transferred me back to India! I finally went through two supervisors in India and was reluctantly transferred to a company rep in Springfield OR, my home state. THIS individual was very nice and responsive anb recorded my complaint and assured me it would be communicated to their corporate headquarters. The whole ordeal cost me three full hours of my time! Beware of this company folks! Their software is effective and useful, but their business practices are a prime example of poor outsourcing and lack of corporate concern for individual customers.
