My $54,000 Mistake, And Now They Are Out of Business Please read my story and if there is anything you can do to help me please
Email me! Let me begin by saying thank you in advance for any thing you can do to help
My situation. I am absolutely mortified by the actions that have taken
Place in my live over the last 10 months. There does not seem to be any
Relief insight.in August of I started the process of purchasing a home from Nationwide
Manufactured Homes. At first glance, I liked my salesman, Stephen. He
Showed me homes in my price range right off the bat. No high pressure
Selling or anything. I was only home “shopping†at the time, but he gave
Me the same courtesy as any other person who would have purchased a home that
Day. Then somewhere down the road everything began to change. My salesman
Was the first to pressure me into the making the deal. Stephen told me that they were running a deal on home financing; and, if I
Went ahead and put my money down, I could get a low interest rate. Four
Months went by, and I still had not been financed. I was given a number of
Excuses; but, as I write this letter, only two come to mind. First I was
Told that the paperwork was prepared wrong. Last I was told Nationwide was
Going out of business.in January I received a phone call from Stephen. He said they had a
Mortgagor, but I had to pay for the appraisal costs. These costs were
$425.00. He proceeded to tell me that after the bank paid Nationwide for
The appraisal costs they would refund my money to me. I called Hennessey
Mortgage and asked Kathy, the loan manager about this situation. Kathy told
Me that I would get my money back as soon as Hennessey Mortgage paid
Nationwide.in the meantime, I found out that Nationwide was going bankrupt. All sales
Transactions would be handled through their sister company Oakwood. My new
Sales person was Mike. I went to Mike and told him I wanted my down payment
Back. They had not provided me with any financing or any type of closing nor
Did anything look close to happening. Mike threatened me by saying, “There
Is no way you are getting your money back. We are not going to be stuck with
A $54,000 home that no one wanted.†In February, I finally had a loan, and we did the closing. I called Kathy
Back at Hennessey Mortgage, and she told me they had paid Nationwide for the
Appraisal costs. I called Mike and asked him for my $425.00. He told me he
Could only give me $300.00 because if he gave me all of the money it would
Look like a kickback. I told him I did not want $300.00; I wanted all of my
Money like I was told I would receive. He told me that he would put me down
As a referral the next time he sold a trailer whether I referred them or not
And this way I would get $500.00. This to me seemed more like an illegal
Trade practice than anything. Talk about your fraud. Maybe that is why the
Company went out of business. I know if all the employees were making up
Fictitious referrals that could not have been cheep at $500.00 a pop. I have
Not as of yet seen my money. When you purchase a manufactured home you are told to mail in any problems
With the home in 30 days, and they would come out to fix them under the
Home's warranty. The home’s warranty is with a company called American
Homestar. The lady that I spoke with there is named Stephanie. After
Several calls, and leaving several phone messages, Stephanie finally returned
My call. She said they would be in 4-6 weeks to fix everything. It has been
Over 2 months later, and we have not seen repairmen. I tried calling
Stephanie again and again; there is no answer, only an answering machine. Following is a short list of the problems with the home, there are many mo
- The home was not leveled properly. Since the last hard rain we received,
The window is now leaking and has ruined my new curtains.
- Some of the trim on the wall was not put up.
- Security System does not work.
- Mini Blinds, and curtains were put in the home although it was requested
That they be left out. Now there are holes in the wall where the blinds and
Curtains had to be removed for items that I wanted.
- The dishwasher does not work properly.
- Staples are showing through the walls. I am not asking for much. I would like my money refunded. I would like all
The repairs to my home fixed. And finally, I would like my brand new
Curtains replaced. I can provide receipts of the costs of the curtains. I would not recommend this horrifying experience to anyone.in fact, now I
Tell everyone I meet about my situation. So if they were considering
Purchasing a remanufactured home, they are not doing so now. After getting
To know my neighbors, I feel somewhat better in the knowledge that I was not
The only one who was taken to the bank. Someone has to do something about
These companies. They have to be told that they cannot treat consumers that
Way. Now my biggest worry is that I am stuck with this $54,000 home and no
Warranty or recourse because the company that sold me the home, Nationwide
Home Manufacturer, and the company who handles the warranty, American
Homestar, are filing bankruptcy.
I received a letter from the courts regarding the bankruptcy of Nationwide
Homes, and American Homestar approximately two weeks ago. From what I can
Gather out of legal jargon is the bankruptcy will be final in June. I don’t
Know if you can help me. But maybe my experience can keep someone else from
Making the same mistakes I did.
Sincerely, Debra Fullerton
