Cuildford Publications Inc Received a letter promising $150k with a request to call them I did they asnwered just 'HELLO' no company identifier WOW did they think I was stupid or what?

Received a letter asking why I hadn't responded to their 1st letter with info on how they could deliver my $150k lottery winning I called 011-44-798-659-9724 they answered the phone just "HELLO' That was my first clue! They mentioned Walmart and The Home Depot as sponsors of their lottery. Said another letter would follow with further instructions.
Second letter contained a check for $6875 with instructions to call again. I did this time they answered a company or something I couldn't understand. Was told to deposit the $6975 and call again for instructions as to who was my assigned 'tax agent' and to where I would be sending $2997 to cover my goverment tax. I DID NOT DEPOSIT THE CHECK But I think I might call them again and tell them I did deposit it and see what comes next!
This sounds too-good-to-be-true and I will not pursue this further. Don't know if this a scam or not but I am not taking any chances.
